Meet the Speakers

Richard M. Wortman

Partner | GDLSK

Richard Wortman manages the Los Angeles office. His practice is focused on import and export trade law, trade regulations and customs law, regulatory law, and transportation law. He has represented clients before US Customs and Border Protection on a variety of issues, including the classification and valuation of imported merchandise, focused assessments, and averting penalties. He also regularly appears before other government agencies with responsibilities over import and export transactions.

Richard helps companies implement duty savings strategies and internal compliance programs. Richard has lectured extensively on issues pertaining to import and export law on behalf of various organizations. He has also taught import and export trade law to both industry and Customs brokerage associations.

Arthur W. Bodek

Partner | GDLSK

Arthur Bodek is a partner in the New York office. His practice is focused on import and export trade law, Customs law, and other regulatory law as it relates to international trade. Much of his work centers around developing creative strategies to maximize benefits under Free Trade Agreements and a host of other duty-free/reduced duty tariff programs (e.g., North American Free Trade Agreement, Central American Free Trade Agreement, Generalized System of Preferences, Caribbean Basin Initiative, 9802 program, etc.).

Mr. Bodek also works with clients to develop favorable tariff classifications that can be applied to the entry of their products. He devotes much of his time to assisting clients with importer security programs, such as the Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT). He has represented clients before US Customs and Border Protection and other federal agencies in connection with audits, investigations, penalties, and other enforcement actions. Mr. Bodek regularly counsels clients on compliance issues and frequently speaks to trade audiences on these topics.
